Hiring Request – Accounting Manager

Position Title : Accounting Manager Location : Malaysia (remote, with potential collaboration across time zones) Reports To : Daniel, Founder (with the assistance of Daphne, Head of Sales and Operations)

Role Overview

Sesameed Education is a growing international education startup. We are seeking an Accounting Manager to build and manage our financial backbone while coordinating with external service providers. This is a hands-on role that requires flexibility, independence, and a willingness to take ownership of both routine and strategic responsibilities as we scale.

The Accounting Manager will oversee full-cycle accounting, compliance with registrations and licensing, tax coordination, payroll, and light HR administration, leveraging ChatGPT and other AI tools to improve reporting accuracy, automate repetitive tasks, and document processes. Familiarity with Xero accounting software is highly preferred, as booking records are maintained there.

The ideal candidate has strong technical accounting skills, experience with external partners (secretarial services, tax firms, auditors), and the ability to thrive in a fast-moving startup environment.

Key Responsibilities

1. Financial Reporting & Accounting Operations

● Maintain accurate and timely accounting records (Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, general ledger, reconciliations).

● Prepare financial statements: Profit and Loss Statement, Balance Sheet, Cash Flow Statement, and management reports.

● Manage monthly and annual closing processes. ● Set up processes and ensure smooth accounting operations as the company scales,

leveraging ChatGPT or other AI tools to automate repetitive reporting and create standardized templates.

● Utilize Xero to maintain and track accounting records efficiently.

2. Licensing & Registration Compliance

● Track and manage renewals of trade licenses, industry licenses, and registrations.

● Liaise with outsourced secretarial services to ensure Sesameed remains compliant and active in all registered countries and jurisdictions.

3. Taxation & Audit Coordination

● Work with outsourced firms on tax filings across multiple countries. ● Coordinate with auditors and ensure all required documentation is prepared. ● Ensure compliance with IRS and other relevant regulatory authorities.

4. Payroll, HR Administration & Software Oversight

● Manage payroll, reimbursements, leave tracking, and HR records. ● Support adoption of modern HR software (evaluate vendors, oversee implementation). ● Maintain accurate employee records on the accounting side. ● Use ChatGPT to assist in drafting HR communications, documentation, and

payroll-related templates to improve efficiency and reduce errors.

Candidate Profile

● Experience : Minimum 6 years in accounting/finance, with exposure to compliance, tax, and HR/payroll.

● Background : Prior startup or SME experience strongly preferred (comfortable being hands-on and adaptable).

● Skills : ○ Strong accounting fundamentals and financial reporting expertise. ○ Proficiency in accounting systems and Microsoft Excel. ○ Experience with Xero accounting system is preferred. ○ Ability to coordinate with external parties (secretaries, tax firms, auditors). ○ Tech-savvy; comfortable evaluating HR/finance SaaS tools and using ChatGPT

or AI tools for process improvement. ● Mindset : Flexible, proactive, detail-oriented, willing to take on diverse responsibilities. ● Other : Must be able to work independently in a fully remote setup (no physical office).

Strong command of English is required.
