Job Description
Engineering and Compliance Manager
Industry: Trading Consumer Goods / Global Retail
Reports To: Managing Director
Company:
We’re a trading company supplying quality consumer products to major discount retailers across the US and Europe think Walmart, Target, Tesco, Lidl, and more. We’re looking for an Engineering and Compliance Manager who’s equally comfortable diving into product specs, checking a mould design, and making sure everything meets strict US and EU safety rules. This isn’t just a desk job. You’ll be the go-to expert ensuring our products are safe, well-made, and fully compliant right from concept to delivery. If you love solving technical problems, working across engineering and compliance, and helping bring great products to market without cutting corners, this role is for you.
Responsibilities:
Lead product development for mechanical and electrical consumer goods from design to production working closely with suppliers and internal teams. Own quality and compliance: ensure every product meets US (CPSIA, FCC, UL, ASTM) and EU (CE, RoHS, REACH, GPSR, UKCA) standards, plus retailer-specific requirements. Review tooling (moulds, jigs, fixtures) and manufacturing processes to guarantee quality and consistency from suppliers. Conduct inspections (pre-production, during production, final) using AQL standards. Investigate quality issues, lead root cause analysis, and drive corrective actions with suppliers. Manage test reports, technical files, and Declarations of Conformity for audits and retailer submissions. Audit factories and work hands-on with overseas manufacturers to improve quality and engineering practices. Be the technical voice in meetings with retailers, suppliers, and internal stakeholders.
Requirements:
Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Industrial Engineering (or related field).
At least 10 years’ experience in product development, quality engineering, or compliance ideally in consumer goods for retail.
Solid background in electro-mechanical products and injection moulding/tooling.
Real-world experience with US and EU regulations and major retailer compliance programs.
Practical, no-nonsense problem solver who can balance technical detail with business needs.
Strong communicator in English is a must (comfortable explaining engineering issues to non-engineers and standing your ground when quality’s on the line.)
Willingness to travel when needed (10-15% mainly in Asia).
You’ll play a key role in protecting our reputation with major retailers by ensuring every product is safe, compliant, and built to last. We value integrity, expertise, and teamwork and we need someone who takes pride in getting it right.
Suitable applicants should apply now for further details, suitable candidate will be contacted for interview.
