Merchandising Planning Director (Female Fashion Brand) – Based in China - Expat Friendly

Position Overview

As the Merchandising Planning Director for our female fashion brand, you will be pivotal in defining our product range and ensuring it aligns with the latest trends and the needs of our target audience. You will lead the SKU (Stock Keeping Unit) strategy, focusing on range planning, category management, and product development tailored specifically for women’s fashion. Your expertise will guide the design team in selecting the right shapes, fabrics, and colors to create collections that empower and inspire our customers.

Key Responsibilities

Range Planning

  • SKU Development: Analyze market demand to determine the optimal number of SKUs needed for each category (e.g., dresses, tops, skirts, outerwear, and accessories) tailored for women.
  • Category Management: Assess historical sales data and current trends to identify growth opportunities in existing categories and develop new ones.

Product Development

  • Shape Selection: Collaborate with design teams to define silhouettes and fits that cater to diverse body types while aligning with brand identity and contemporary fashion trends.
  • Fabric Selection: Evaluate and choose fabrics that reflect quality, comfort, and style, ensuring they align with seasonal trends and the target market's preferences.
  • Color Strategy: Develop a seasonal color palette that resonates with our female audience, considering current trends and brand aesthetics.

Market Analysis

  • Trend Research: Stay informed about industry trends, consumer behavior, and competitor offerings to inform effective range planning and product development.
  • Sales Forecasting: Utilize data analytics for accurate sales forecasting, adjusting product offerings to optimize inventory and profitability.

Cross-functional Collaboration

  • Team Leadership: Lead and mentor the buying & merchandising team, fostering a culture of collaboration, creativity, and innovation.
  • Stakeholder Communication: Work closely with marketing, sales, and production teams to ensure a cohesive execution of the merchandising strategy.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Fashion Merchandising, Fashion Design, or a related field.
  • 10+ years of experience in merchandising, with at least 5 years in a leadership role within the women's fashion sector.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret and leverage data for strategic decision-making.
  • Excellent knowledge of women's fashion trends, fabric types, and garment construction.
  • Proven track record of successful range planning and product launches.
